SETTING UP A GEOTECHNICAL SOIL INVESTIGATION PROGRAMME

The public’s tolerance for these mishaps is fading, while uncertainties and risks will always be reality in geo-engineering. Therefore, setting up a tailor made soil investigation program is essential for the success of each construction job. Considering different variables will help to determine the ideal type and scale of a soil investigation program and its interpretation. Aim of the course This three-day course provides participants with a systematic risk-driven planning of soil investigation programs, including many practical cases. Topics are: cone penetration testing and drilling methods various other measurement methods to determine in situ geotechnical parameters geophysical survey methods laboratory testing risk analyses and geotechnical baseline reporting an overview of the state-of-the-art techniques aspects of the interpretation of the measurement data and correlations workshop on planning a soil investigation program. For a detailed overview of topics we refer to the course programme. Excursion The fourth day of the course is an optional day. In the morning we will start with a presentation of the geotechnical aspects of the Maeslant storm surge barrier. In the afternoon an excursion to the storm surge barrier is scheduled and a boat excursion in the Rotterdam harbour. Enrolment, fee and registration The registration fee is € 1,350.-- for three days and € 300.-- for the optional fourth day with excursion. The course fee includes course documentation, the textbook Cone Penetration Testing in Geotechnical Practice by Tom Lunne, lunches and refreshments during the breaks. The fee does not include VAT. International participants from within the European Union are charged 0% VAT only when they provide their organizations VAT number. Participants from outside the European Union are exempt from VAT, hence 0% VAT will be charged.
