Excursion at the Rotterdam Central Station We will visit the building activities near Rotterdam central station. The city of Rotterdam is improving the infrastructure for public transport. The central station will be rebuilt including an extension of the underground railway lines and a connection to new light rail facilities. The extension of the underground requires excavations near and underneath foundations of high-rise buildings. An important requirement from the local government is that public transport can continue during the building activities. During our visit it will be explained how this job will be done, followed by a tour around the building pit.

Excursion at Cofra, Amsterdam In the afternoon we will visit the Cofra factory near Amsterdam. Cofra is a manufacturer of geosynthetics. We will have an impression of the production of pre-fabricated vertical drains and how laboratory tests are conducted to guarantee quality. The tour in de the factory and laboratory facilities will be followed by a site visit. At this site, vacuum consolidation will be applied using the Beaudrain principle. In this new technique vertical drains are placed and connected to a horizontal drain, through which the under pressure is applied. |

Bus leaves Amsterdam We expect to return at Delft at 17:30. The afternoon programme is in the vicinity of Amsterdam airport (Schiphol), so attendants who need to catch an early flight can participate (parts) of the afternoon programme. |
